Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery Receives Thailand Energy Awards 2023. Recognized in Excellence in “Creative Energy” for Advancing Towards Sustainable Energy Conservation and Efficiency Enhancements

Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited recently received the Thailand Energy Awards 2023 Excellence in Creative Energy Award (General Group) for the “Reduction of Light Naphtha 2 Reactor Power by Integrating Conditions and Equipment with Advanced Technology” project. The Thailand Energy Awards 2023 was presented by Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and was received on behalf of Bangchak Corporation by Napong Faungfupong, Vice President, Refinery Technical Excellence.

Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited’s Refinery and Oil Trading Business Group has embraced the vision to be a Green Friendly Refinery that prioritizes an integrated approach to energy conservation and continuous improvement to energy efficiency. This encompasses the inspecting of energy intensive equipment, revising designs, and exploring practical applications of new technologies.

The award-winning project successfully achieved a systematic reduction in power consumption for the Light Naphtha 2 reactor, amounting to a total of 8,932,323 megajoules/year, or energy savings of 0.263% (the reactor is an energy-intensive equipment consuming up to 267,010,754 megajoules annually). Additionally, the project effectively reduced greenhouse gas emissions by decreasing fuel consumption by 501.59 tCO2e. The project was able to effectively enhance fuel efficiency and control greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of the following operation measures.

• Upgrading the quality of Light Naphtha refining unit using Advanced Process Control technology.
• Designing a new catalyst for the reactor of the Light Naphtha refining unit 2.
• Installing Inserted Tube equipment in the heat exchanger.

Being recognized with the Excellence in “Creative Energy” Award is another testament to Bangchak’s dedicated commitment to prioritizing efficient production processes and making operational improvements and enhancements according to the BCP316NET Plan. This is aligned with the goal of achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2030, and Net Zero GHG Emissions by 2050.
