Bangchak Supports Partner Network in Receiving LESS: Low Emission Support Scheme Certificates

Pushing the Concept of “Reduce Waste at Source with Bangchak” by Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions by over 41 Tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent

Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited has tangibly promoted the “Reduce Waste at Source with Bangchak” concept, supporting Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation and other partners to receive LESS: Low Emission Support Scheme Certificates from the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization). The certificates acknowledge the campaigns encouraging various stakeholders, including employees, customers, schools around Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery, and schools in the Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation network, to reduce source waste. The two significant campaigns are “Ruk Pun Suk Junior” and “Green Shelter,” for the Friends in Need (of “Pa”) Volunteers Foundation, which together collected and reintegrated more than ten tons of waste back into the system along Circular Economy principles, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 41 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Gloyta Nathalang, Acting Senior Executive Vice President, Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, and Director of Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation stated that Bangchak is committed to raising awareness among its business stakeholders about the climate crisis and the effective utilization of resources. Bangchak demonstrated this commitment through initiatives to “Reduce Waste at Source with Bangchak” in collaboration with strong partners such as SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited (SCGC) and Tetra Pak (Thailand) Company Limited, which have resulted in tangible practices and achievements. Receiving the certificate is part of the joint effort to create a low-carbon society and assess the environmental impact reduction through proper collection and recycling of various excess materials for other purposes, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with Circular Economy practice.

Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation executives and partners recently visited Watsoithong School, Bang Sue district, a school in the Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation network that has consistently participated in the Rak Pun Suk Junior campaign since it first launched in 2021. The school is a model of waste management in the Rak Pun Suk Junior campaign, having reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over seven tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in the past year and has expanded its environmental care projects, becoming a model school in the Bang Sue district and Bangkok.

Wirut Krarun, Director of Watsoithong School, stated that participating in the Rak Pun Suk Junior project was an exceptional opportunity for the school. The project provided valuable support for knowledge training, educational materials on systematic waste management, and essential equipment. Moreover, the school received initial funding for waste management. The invaluable starting point has since had teachers and students wholeheartedly working together to create a clean environment for the school and foster good behaviors and environmental consciousness. The school has added learning stations and earned recognition as a waste management model.

Bangchak, in collaboration with SCGC, initiated “Rak Pun Suk Junior” in 2021 to serve as a model of school and community waste management based on circular economy principles for the schools around Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery, and schools in the Bai Mai Pun Suk network. The project developed eight learning stations on waste management in educational establishments to promote the circular economy among school students. Seventeen schools with the Bai Mai Pun Suk network participated in the project, collectively processing 9,060 kilograms of waste (May 2022 to July 2023), and successfully reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 39.2 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.

The Green Shelter for the Friends in Need (of “Pa”) Volunteers Foundation, in collaboration with Tetra Pak, established collection points for beverage cartons at six Bangchak service stations, two locations at Bangchak Corporation Head Office and Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery and Oil Distribution Center, seven locations at schools surrounding Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery. The initiative managed 715 kilograms of waste (January to August 2022), successfully reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2.3 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
