Bangchak Supports Ocean Crisis Resolution on World Oceans Day 2024

Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited fostered environmental consciousness for ocean conservation on World Oceans Day 2024. Gloyta Nathalang, Acting Senior Executive Vice President, Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited participated in the opening ceremony for the World Oceans Day exhibition, themed “Awaken New Depths: Resolving the Crisis of the Oceans.” The event was presided over by Pol. Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, along with Capt. Rachata Phisitbanakorn, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thalearngsak Petchsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Directo-General, Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Chidchanok Sukmongkol, Deputy Director-General, Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, and Dr, Thon Thamrongnawasawat, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University, along with public and private agencies, and youths. The event was held at Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World, Siam Paragon.

The World Oceans Day event was organized to stimulate awareness and participation from all sectors in ocean conservation. Bangchak, in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University, prepared an exhibition showcasing seagrass from Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus and informative displays on the importance of seagrass in marine ecosystems and the impact of global warming on seagrass, which has the potential for carbon sequestration (Blue Carbon).

Bangchak Corporation is involved in the conservation of Thai seas through various missions, such as supporting the Faculty of Fisheries in the study and research of the conservation and restoration of seagrass in Koh Mak, Trat province. As a result of global warming, the area is currently experiencing changes to its marine resources, marine life, seagrass ecosystem, biodiversity, and seagrass coverage. The company also joined the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources’ Thailand Mangrove Alliance to promote “Reduce Waste at the Source with Bangchak” through various networks and is a partner organization for the development of Koh Mak into a Low Carbon Destination in collaboration with the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Public Organization)(DASTA), the Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University, Ao Nid Integrated Agricultural Community Enterprise, and Koh Mak Subdistrict Administration Organization.
