Bangchak Continues Waste Reduction Campaign, Dedicating Space for “Orphan Waste” and Pilot “Green Shelter” Drop-Points
Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited continues social and environmental initiatives in 2023, supporting Circular Economy waste management approaches, allocating service station space for refused waste drop-points and the collection of used beverage cartons for recycling into construction materials.
Gloyta Nathalang, Executive Vice President, Corporate Branding, Communication and Sustainability, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, revealed that Bangchak remains committed to the BCG Economy, and therefore supports Circular Economy waste management approaches to tackle wastes at its source and reduce pressures on landfills, promoting proper waste management strategies and reducing landfill-induced air pollution. Bangchak is part of an environmental conservation network, allocating space in its service stations as drop-points for N15 Technology’s “Orphan Waste” campaign, providing convenience for participants, directing the collected waste to proper segregation and disposal channels.
Gloyta stated that, “Bangchak started providing space at its service stations in 2021, and received an overwhelming public reception, collecting over 65 tons from Bangkok Bangchak service stations, 5 tons from Maptaput Bangchak service station, and 9 tons from Habito Mall during the campaign from January to November 2022 (N15 Technology revealed the total campaign collection of 270 tons). The success prompted the initial campaign timeframe and the addition of 4 more drop-off locations in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area to provide a wider opportunity for households to participate in the low-carbon society throughout 2023.”
“In addition to waste management, Bangchak is also 1 of the 14 partners of the Green Shelter campaign, a Tetra Pak (Thailand) Company Limited initiative encouraging people to collect and recycle UHT cartons the 10 pilot Bangchak service stations and continue expanding the scope of the campaign to 23 locations.” The collected material is recycled into new construction material, such as Eco Roof, Eco Door Frame, Eco Wood, Eco Wood, and Eco Brick, which are then presented to Friends in Need (of "PA") Volunteers Foundation, Thai Red Cross, to build homes for the victims of natural disasters, those in need, the homeless. “In addition to providing the space to receive the donations, Bangchak also promotes carton collection in the 11 local schools within the Bangchak refinery community, and corporate offices.”
